This week's Punisher shows that Frank Castle actually succeeded at killing everyone in the bar scene of Secret Wars 1. How the hell is that possible? I could see Frank killing Fisk and Bullseye, but there's no way Frank could kill Sandman or Absorbing Man
Hey gang. Or one person. Maybe three. If you’re reading this and have been a fan of the Erik & James Disagree About Comics podcast, it is with a heavy heart that I tell you… it’s not you, it’s me.
With the kids and work and soccer practice and freelance design jobs and hobbies and running a D&D campaign and trying to write screenplays in whatever spare time I might have, I just don’t have the time or energy to edit and release the podcast every week. It’s a joy to record – to get together with James and talk about comics (even though we disagree) each week – but the rest of it, the stuff that most podcasters have assistants and interns for, has taken too much time from an already packed schedule. We had a couple weeks off over the summer, and it was nice to be able to watch TV with my wife on a Tuesday night instead of editing the podcast for a Wednesday release. It was nice to have time to read a Deadpool comic to my son on a Monday night instead of re-listening to my talk with James about it from the day before.
James & I did the podcast for 11 months. It was a good run, 39 episodes (they number 40, but we skipped over Episode 20…never did get back to that one). 40 with the “50 Shades of MODOK” bonus episode. 41 if you count the one we recorded 2 weeks ago that I still haven’t had time to listen to, edit, or release.
James and I are still playing D&D together every 2 weeks; I’m starting a brand new campaign this Friday, running the new “Out of the Abyss” adventure. I’m pretty stoked about it…even if James is chafing my sense of verisimilitude by playing an extremely claustrophobic bird-man (aarakocra, for the nerds who know) in a completely subterranean scenario. But that’s James. So it goes.
Since announcing all those Marvel titles a couple weeks ago, a couple more have been announced that are must-haves for me:
Black Widow (Waid/Samnee) Power Man & Iron Fist (Walker/Greene) Howard the Duck (Zdarsky/Quinones) [I had a hard decision to make, and though it pained me to cut it, I was going to quit Howard. But…Gwenpool backups saved the series!]
And I forgot one non-superhero title I’ll be getting, as I have vowed to buy every comic Gerry Duggan writes for Marvel, forever:
Chewbacca (Duggan/Noto)
I believe that brings my number of monthly titles up to… 25.
Disagreetings! It’s another tangent-packed, spoiler-filled episode as Erik & James take to the cloud to discuss and inevitably disagree about a handful of recent comic books. This week our heroes get into Weirdworld #4, 1872 #3, the Secret Wars: Secret Love one-shot, and Erik jumps in on Sinestro #15. They also delve into the recently announced roster of the post-Secret Wars, All-New, All-Different era of Marvel Comics, and reveal their most hotly-anticipated titles of the new launches. And, look out – they actually agree on one of them! Follow us on the Twitter at @EJDAC, tumble for us at ejdac.tumblr.com, and contact us via the electronic mail at erikandjamesdisagree@gmail.com.
Disagreetings! Erik and James are here to drink beers and have a spoiler-filled discussion about some superhero comics! This week’s books include All-New Hawkeye #5, The Infinity Gauntlet #4, A-Force #4, Marvel Zombies #4, Seige #3, Hail Hydra #2, Last Days of Ant-Man #1, Thors #3, Tokyo Ghost #1, and Erik jumps in on Batman #44. They also answer burning questions such as: Was the Chameleon a member of the Sinister Six? Tune in to find out! Disagreetings! After a hiatus of a few weeks due to work travel & vacations, Erik & James are swinging back into action to discuss a bunch of new & recent comics, including: Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars #4, Civil War #3 & 4, 1872 #2, Silver Surfer #14, Amazing Spider-Man; Renew Your Vows #5, Mrs. Deadpool & the Howling Commandos #4, Red Skull #3, and Daredevil #18. On the DC side of things, Erik jumps in on Justice League #43, and finds himself digging both Supeman & Lex Luthor. It’s good to be back after a little break; we’ll try to keep the episodes coming regularly in the future. And finally, sadly, this episode is dedicated memory of Adam Calhoun, a good guy and quite possibly this podcast’s very first listener. Cheers, Adam. Disagreetings! Erik & James once again return to Erik’s Living Room to drink beers and discuss some comics. What comics, you ask? How about Secret Wars #5, A-Force #3, Master of Kung-Fu #4, Howard the Duck #5, and Planet Hulk #4? Does that do anything for ya? Huh?! I hope so. And for once, Erik was disappointed with a few books that James loved. Bizarro World! We have fun. Follow us on Twitter at @EJDAC, email us at erikandjamesdisagree at gmail dot com. Disagreetings! Erik & James are back on track… until the next Summer event or vacation causes an inevitable delay. Our heroes convened on location at James’ apartment this time to discuss some comics before heading out to the kickoff of DC Beer Week. They get into Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #3, Seige #2, Infinity Gauntlet #3, Red Skull #2, Civil War #2, and Erik jumps in on Lobo #9 (this is not the Main Man you’re looking for). Whose side are you on? Follow us on Twitter at @EJDAC, email us at erikandjamesdisagree at gmail dot com. Recorded on 8.9.15.
Disagreetings! We are late once again…Apologies, dear listeners. The regular recording was delayed because of James’ trip to Gen Con, and then Erik just couldn’t find the time to edit and release the podcast in a timely fashion, so here we are, a week late. But, hey, 2 episodes released on the same day! Lucky you! In this episode, James recaps his Gen Con experience, and our heroes discuss Black Widow #20, Daredevil #17, M.O.D.O.K.: Assassin #3, Thors #2, and Erik jumps in on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #48. Also, E&J talk about the new Deadpool film trailer – spoiler alert: they declare it to be…AWESOME. Follow us on Twitter at @EJDAC, email us at erikandjamesdisagree at gmail dot com. Recorded on 8.5.15.
Gerry Duggan talks about his & Ryan Stegman’s upcoming series. I haven’t been this excited about a team since Rick Remender first got the Unity Squad together. This is going to be an action-packed thrill-ride, no doubt.
Disagreetings! Erik and James discuss all your favorite comic books! That is, of course, assuming your favorite comic books are Siege #1, Old Man Logan #3, Marvel Zombies #2, Hawkeye #4, Secret Wars Journal #3, and this week’s jump-in title: Justice League 3001 #2. Our heroes also rap about Gen Con, Charles Barkley, and recap the results of Trivia Night, all while sampling some tasty beers.
